Local Jobs Program

ANNOUNCEMENT!

We are thrilled to announce Rural Enterprises Australia has been awarded the contract for Employment Facilitator and Support Services for the Local Jobs Program for the Perth North region.

As part of the economic response to COVID-19, the Australian Government has established a program to support the recovery of local economies through identified place-based strategies that can respond rapidly to the region’s training and employment needs, and importantly, connect job seekers to local jobs (Local Jobs Program).

This program has since been extended an additional two years to 30 June 2027.  Find out more about the extension of the Local Jobs Program, including changes to the Program at Local Jobs Program Extended.

LOCAL JOBS PROGRAM

On 1 July 2021, the Local Jobs Program expanded to all 51 Employment Regions throughout Australia.  It brings together expertise, resources and access to funding at the local level to focus on reskilling, upskilling and employment pathways for people in each region.

Local knowledge is essential in identifying challenges and developing solutions.  The Local Jobs Program supports this with the following elements in each region:

  • A Job Coordinator (previously known as Employment Facilitators) in each region is appointed to oversee the delivery of the Local Jobs Program
  • A Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce
  • A Local Jobs Plan
  • Local Initiatives Fund to support small-scale, community-driven activities that improve local labour marketing functioning.  This fund is part of a broader effort to address workforce needs and promote employment pathways in specific regions.
