Senior Farm Hand, Warradarge WA (REF 1700822)
Job Description
Job Description:
If you’re an experienced broadacre operator who wants more responsibility than simply being told which paddock to go to next, this could be a really interesting next move.
We’re looking for a senior person to join a mixed farming operation in WA’s Mid West.
The operation runs approximately 1,500ha across cropping and pasture, with canola, wheat and hay forming part of the program.
At its heart, this is an experienced cropping role. You’ll be across the machinery through seeding, spraying and harvest, but there is also the opportunity to take much greater ownership of the cropping program.
If you’ve got an interest in cropping decisions, planning and working alongside an agronomist, they’ll happily give you that responsibility.
Prefer to concentrate more on the operational side? A strong, experienced operator will still be considered.
The other important part of the job is machinery maintenance. You don’t need to be a qualified mechanic, but you do need to be handy on the tools and confident servicing, maintaining and repairing the gear.
Good Things to Know:
- Opportunity to take genuine ownership of the cropping program;
- Work directly with the owner and agronomist on cropping decisions;
- Approximately 1,500ha cropping and pasture program, giving you responsibility without needing to manage an enormous corporate-scale operation;
- Livestock isn’t your main responsibility:
- Great location with Jurien Bay, the coast and beaches within easy reach.
About the Role:
- Manage the day-to-day cropping program across approximately 1,500ha of crops and pasture;
- Operate and maintain the farm’s cropping machinery;
- Carry out machinery servicing, preventative maintenance and general repairs;
- Manage spraying operations and chemical application;
- Assist with pasture establishment and hay production;
- Keep machinery and cropping operations organised throughout the season;
- Assist with livestock or other general farm work occasionally when required.
About You:
- Around five years’ practical cropping experience or equivalent capability;
- Strong machinery operating skills;
- SP spraying experience;
- Good machinery maintenance and mechanical ability;
- Ability to work independently
- Interest in cropping management and decision-making
- Good communication skills;
- A practical, keen approach to the job.
What’s on Offer
- Approximately $40-$50/hour depending on experience;
- 4 x 2 brick family home with established lawns;
- Utilities included;
- LandCruiser/work vehicle supplied;
- Family-friendly accommodation;
- Primary school bus to the front gate;
- Immediate start available.
